The Silver Linings Playbook (Paperback)
Matthew Quick
-
In Matthew Quick's debut novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, Pat Peoples has a theory that his life is actually a movie produced by God, and that his mission in life is to become emotionally literate. Pat has spent several years in a mental health facility. When he leaves hospital to live with his parents, everything has changed: no one will talk to him about his wife, his old friends have families, his beloved football team keep losing... But there is a silver lining in the form of the tragically widowed Tiffany, who offers to act as a go-between for Pat and his wife - if he agrees to perform in this year's Dance Away Depression competition. A startlingly original book that is both quirky and sympathetic to the subject matter and was the inspiration behind the multi-award winning film starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro.

I really enjoyed this book. If you're looking to read this after seeing the film, this is so much better and obviously it's a lot different in some ways. Just a great book.

An interesting Read -
I was given this book as a Christmas gift. It is not a choice that I would normally have made, but the book was very good. I found it quirky and amusing, as well as giving me an understanding into some mental health issues. I could not give it a 5* rating because I felt that some of the sections laboured on a little too long about American football, which I have absolutely no interest in.
