Barbara Pym Collection - 5 Books (Paperback)

Barbara Pym -

The Barbara Pym Collection brings together five highly readable social comedies from an author who was much acclaimed. Every book contains a group of unforgettable characters and moments of comedy that will make you smile and chuckle. The collection contains her 1958 novel A Glass of Blessings, one that was respected by Philip Larkin. It tells the story of the bored housewife Wilmet Forsyth, a good-looking woman who finds solace in a nearby church - especially in the company of three unmarried priests and a very different character in Piers Longridge. The books come with introductions from the likes of Mavis Cheek, Jilly Cooper and Kate Saunders.

Titles in this collection

Excellent -

I loved these so much that I bought another set to give to my sister. Delightful, gentle stories which are beautifully written and quintessentially English.

Brilliant Introduction -

Being a Barbara Pym fan is like being a member of a secret club, whose members include Philip Larkin, Jilly Cooper, Alexander McCall-Smith and many others. If you imagine Jane Austen updated to the 1950s, it will give you a little flavour of her style. You cannot go wrong with this collection, which contains four of her "classics" together with one novel (An Academic Question) which was unfinished at her death and is therefore merely good, rather than excellent!
