Hidden Classics Collection - 10 Books (Paperback)
In this compelling collection, Oneworld Classics have sought out ten wonderful novels from across the world that they - and we - feel deserve to be much better known. Some are less famous works from very well-known authors like Dickens, Hugo and Dostoevsky, while others are widely read in their home countries but have yet to reach a large readership in the UK. With stories as page-turning as The Black Spider - in which a village makes a deal with the Devil - you should lose no time in trying these lost classics!
Titles in this collection
- The Last Day Of A Condemned Man - Victor Hugo
- The Devil's Elixirs - E.T.A Hoffmann
- Peter Schlemihl - Adelbert Von Chamisso
- A Strange Manuscript Found In A Copper Cylinder - James De Mille
- The Haunted House - Charles Dickens
- The Sorrows Of Young Werther - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
- Notes From The Undergound - Fyodor Dostoevsky
- The Monk And The Hangman's Daughter - Ambrose Bierce
- The Good Soldier - Ford Maddox Ford
- The Black Spider - Jeremias Gotthelf

"Stimulating and intriguing collection" -
I liked these books the moment I unpacked them, and am enjoying reading them. It's kick-started my reading habits again. More please!

"Essential reading" -
I bought this set as i was specifically looking for The Sorrows of Young Werther. I have now read 6 of the 10 and they are all timeless classics as relevant today as ever. They all contain an introduction by the translator and/or notes to help put the original novel in context. Peter Schlemihl is wonderful, whilst Notes from Underground is simply life changing. Still got Vicot Hugo, Ford Madox Ford and Hoffman and Ambrose Pierce to go, can't wait! Buy this set for a book lover and they will thank you forever.

"Little gems" -
Fabulous collection of hidden gems. Beautifully written. Any more Book People?
TBP says: Hi Shaun, thanks for the feedback. Please keep an eye on both our catalogue and website for future collections. We also have a Charles Dickens collection of 16 novels coming very soon that you may be interested in!

"Great value" -
A wonderful set, but you do not receive Notes from Under the Undergound, but instead Notes from the Underground.
TBP says: Hi Anna, thanks for the kind words and feedback. The listings have now been changed to display the correct title.

"A wonderful collection" -
How have I not heard of any of these before?! A fantastic selection of wonderful books by a range of talented authors. I have read 4 so far, my favourite being "The Monk and the Hangman's Daughter" by Ambrose Bierce - a shocking, brilliant story. This would make a great gift to any big readers.

"Nice set" -
To be honest I was not even aware that some of these gems existed. Very little duplication with most of my existing collection. The text is well presented on good quality paper. The hardest decision is which one to read next... P.S. the Book People website contains an error ~ you do not get "Notes From Under The Floorboards" but instead get "Notes From The Underground"
TBP says: Apologies, we've now amended the description.
