Josephine Tey Collection - 8 Books (Collection)

Josephine Tey -

Josephine Tey is one of the best-known and most-loved of all crime writers. She began to write full time after the successful publication of her first novel in 1929 and continued to write until her death in 1952. With her original, mysterious plots and a winning combination of interesting characters and genuinely surprising outcomes, stories like The Franchise Affair, The Man in the Queue and A Shilling for Candles are rightly heralded as classics. An author very much in the style of Agatha Christie and Daphne du Maurier, these books, all set against well-drawn period backdrops, will appeal to fans of detective fiction.

Josephine Tey Collection -

I loved these books, interesting and absorbing stories.

My favourite crime author -

I agree that Brat Farrar, The Franchise Affair and The Daughter of Time are brilliant - they are my all-time favourite crime novels, but I won't dismiss the others - they are not so unusual, but stand up well against any other crime fiction from the period. I'm glad that DNA testing had not been invented earlier, or these books would never have happened.

"What a Find!" -

I've been an avid reader of mysteries all my life, but have only just 'discovered' Josephine Tey - persuaded by the description 'very much in the style of Agatha Christie and Daphne du Maurier'. What a find! I have enjoyed every one of these books without exception. An interestingly different setting and plot each time, featuring steady and likeable Inspector Grant in some but not all. Excellent! And fantastic value for money.

"Super Collection" -

Our local reading group has read all the books in the recent collection and would like to recommend them to other reading groups. Good stories, good plots and good writing. Thoroughly enjoyable.

"Fantastic, classic detective fiction" -

Josephine Tey's name has now almost disappeared from view, but she remains an outstanding writer of detective fiction. I don't agree with another reviewer that these have dated - and I do agree that "Brat Farrar", "Daughter of Time" and "The Franchise Affair" are among the best ever written. Really worth trying if you haven't read her before.
