Dodie Smith Collection - 3 Books (Collection)

Dodie Smith

The Dodie Smith set brings together three fantastic stories from the author of I Capture the Castle and 101 Dalmations. Set against the backdrop of a London theatre world, It Ends with Revelations is an unconventional love story in which loyalty may prove more important than love. The Town in Bloom finds a young Lancashire girl arrive in London intent on a stage career, although she has to make do with a role as theatre secretary. When she does have the chance to act, she makes an unforgettable impression, but not the one she'd hopes. She soon falls in love for the first time. The New Moon with the Old is an unusual novel about a family full of eclectic characters. When the widower father Rupert flees the country under the threat of prosecution for fraud, he asks new secretary-housekeeper to not only break the news to the family, but also look after them.

Not memorable -

These books just seemed ordinary, easily forgotten, not very exciting. And why are we asked to see a man who seems to have defrauded people with a Ponzi scheme as a romantic forgiveable it-could-have-happened-to-anyone love interest?

Nice comfy read. -

I really enjoyed these three books. I've never read I Capture the Castle so had nothing to compare them to. I found them relaxing, a nice easy read where nothing terrible happens and nothing too exciting. Just a comfortable, rather charming look at life from another perspective. Gentle and enjoyable.

Disappointing -

I am a big fan of 'I Capture the Castle', so had high hopes for this set. But they weren't at all what I expected. The first book I read (It Ends With Revelations, I think), just about kept my interest. But the next one was so dull I couldn't bring myself to finish it.
