Good collection but..... -
I've bought this collection because I've read in the description 'contemporary and humorous takes on 20 famous children's stories', as I think the classic fairy tales are quite violent and outdated for this generation of kids like cooking the wolf or eating granny...
To be fair, there are better ways of telling these stories while keeping the message. To be fair, the collection is good but no way it's contemporary...a couple of stories maybe, but most are still horrible like the Little Mermaid. Buy it if it's for older children or you don't mind telling these tales to the younger ones, but please don't think they are contemporary and humorous because most of them aren't.

Well worth the money... -
Bought these for my 4-year-old daughter's birthday, she absolutely loves them and they are well worth the money, but as an adult reading them you sometimes feel like half of the story is missing and that they don't quite make sense. Some of the ones with cartoony illustrations and modern name changes spoil the story a bit for me as part of the joy of reading these stories with your own child is that they bring back your own childhood memories. Having said that though, they are a favourite with my daughter and that's all that matters!

Great set -
Bought these for my 3-year-old who loves them... constant re-reading is requested. Some of them have slightly grown-up themes - death, animal cruelty etc, but that doesn't seem to be causing any concern to the little fella. Worried adults could always hold back the darker ones, but hey: kids love fairly tales and some of them are grizzly. The majority of these are just lovely stories.
Sometimes the story is too long for the condensed format, but again that seems to me to bother adults more than kids.
This is the only review I've ever bothered to write... the set was good enough to be worth the hassle.

4-year-old a little scared! -
Bought these for my son's 4th birthday this month. Most of the stories we've read, he doesn't like. He gets a little scared! Although they have been made more child-friendly, still not made it an easy read. Maybe we've read too many other non-fairy tale books.

Wonderful Collection -
I got this set for my son for his second birthday. He loves most of the books in the collection. The stories are short enough to go through a couple at a time, the illustrations are great. The Snow Queen is the only book I am not happy with as it feels like it's missing the end. But overall it's definitely a great value for the classic stories every child should know.

very different -
What a lovely collection. Very different to the same old stories you see. My 6-year-old just loves reading them by herself and the illustrations by Alan Marks and Mauro Evangelista are enchanting. Really happy with the purchase.

Perfect, I wanted more! -
A wonderful set of books with some traditional stories. I bought this set to give out as party favours instead of party bags but love it so much I thought I'd order another set so we had a set to keep. Unfortunately it's currently sold out so I have a dilemma on my hands!

Excellent Keepsake -
Wonderful gift for my grandchildren to keep, listen to, then read and re-read for themselves in years to come. Lovely pictures and ideal text for children of all ages to enjoy good traditional tales.

My 4-year old son and 2-year old daughter love them. One of the best sets I have ever bought from the Book People. Thank you so much!

Great collection -
I got these for my 3-year-old. They are the perfect collection of the classic stories - written in a way so kids don't get bored half way. There is not too much reading, the kids are really interested in the story because of the great pictures, and these are great value for money (at £1 per book I don't think you'll find these any cheaper).

These books are great for early readers, with lovely pictures and great for sharing with the children. I bought them for party bags and they went down a treat and at a bargain price too! Well done the Book People, for excellent, fast and friendly service. Recommended highly. Thank you.
