We love Christmas time and know you do, too. As you no doubt know by now, we also love books. And what better combination could there be than the two of them together? From children’s classics to contemporary bestsellers and one of the most famous tales ever told, here are some of our favourite Christmas-themed books.

No-one has summed up the joy of the season better than Raymond Briggs in these two classic picture books, both of which have been adapted into staples of the Christmas TV schedule. Father Christmas shows you what the big man gets up to the rest of the year when he’s not delivering blooming presents; and The Snowman is a simply magical and poignant journey.

Shirley Hughes’ style is perfect for Christmas. Sure to get the nostalgic juices flowing, this perfect picture book finds the popular Alfie looking forward to Christmas and sharing in the joys of decorating the tree and giving presents.


Dr. SeussHow the Grinch Stole Christmas

He’s green, he’s mean, he’s the Grinch! An outcast on Whoville, the Grinch hates Christmas and can’t stand the celebratory nature of the Whos. Told in Dr. Seuss’ trademark rhyming style, this is a crazy Christmas classic – and watching the cartoon version (or Ron Howard’s Jim Carrey-starring spectacular) is also a time-honoured TV tradition in America.


J.R.R. TolkienLetters from Father Christmas

The Lord of the Rings author also wrote a simply wonderful children’s book that celebrates Christmas in style. A must-read for fans of both the author and the holidays.

This seasonal favourite finds the famous poet providing a lyrical account of his childhood Christmases spent in a small Welsh town. Featuring everything from wolves, bears and hippos to Mrs Prothero’s cat, it’s a timeless read.
