Top economist Gary Shilling shows you how to prosper in the slow-growing and deflationary times that lie ahead While many investors fear a rapid rise in inflation, author Gary Shilling, an award-winning economic forecaster, argues that the global economy is going through a long period of de-leveraging and weak growth, which makes deflation far more likely and a far greater threat to investors than inflation. Shilling explains in clear language and compelling logic why the world economy will struggle for several more years and what investors can do to protect and grow their wealth in the difficult times ahead. The investment strategies that worked for last 25 years will not work in the next 10 years. Shilling advises readers to avoid broad exposure to stocks, real estate, and commodities and to focus on high-quality bonds, high-dividend stocks, and consumer staple and food stocks. * Written by one of today's best forecasters of economic trends-twice voted by Institutional Investor as Wall Street's top economist * Clearly explains what to invest in, what to avoid, and how to cope with a deflationary, slow-growth economy * Demonstrates how Shilling has been consistently right about major economic trends since he began forecasting in the early 1980s Filled with in-depth insights and practical advice, this timely guide lays out a convincing case for why investors need to be prepared for a long period of weak growth and deflation-not inflation-and what you can do to prosper in the difficult times ahead.

This book starts with the basics of how foreign exchange works, but it is also my spin on how the market works, which I hope will give you a clearer idea than other books about what it is you are doing when you enter a trade. It then progresses to more complicated aspects of the market such as leverage and margin. I aim for simplicity so don't worry, there are no huge blocks of text or tiny fonts, and I use plenty of diagrams and real-life examples to show you what I am talking about so that author and reader are on the same page (so to speak) at all times. Before I go on I need to give you a taste of my philosophy as this is vital to the structure of this book. I believe that fundamental factors: politics, economics and even social factors cause prices to move the way they do (and sometimes in the strangest ways), however throughout the day the smallest price movements are usually based upon technical factors that cause prices to move the way they do. So you'll get no fundamental or technical purists here: my approach is to combine the two. It works for me. But before you can think about implementing strategies you need to make sure that your risk management strategy is water tight - this is the chief focus of Part A of this book. I spend a lot of time on risk management techniques, however my aim was to give this section my own subjective spin to try and make it different from my first experiences with learning about risk management. It was always the section I rushed through when I first entered the markets because I thought it was dull and boring. But without a firm grasp of risk management techniques you can soon find the lows outnumber the highs in FX. Part B goes straight to the heart of my philosophy. It will help you to understand the basic and more advanced fundamental and technical indicators out there, before the creme de la creme: how to combine the two. Most books either focus on fundamental or technical tricks, very rarely do they fuse the two. But that is what I will try to do for the bulk of this book. To finish off there is my trading blog, which will give you worked through examples of my trades, how I chose them, why I put them on at the time I did, and, crucially, how they performed. These trades will be real-life examples of my philosophy in action, so you will understand how I combine technical and fundamental analysis on a daily basis.

Dark Pools is the pacy, revealing, and profoundly chilling tale of how global markets have been hijacked by trading robots - many so self-directed that humans can't predict what they'll do next. It's the story of the blisteringly intelligent computer programmers behind the rise of these 'bots'. And it's a timely warning that as artificial intelligence gradually takes over, we could be on the verge of global meltdown. "Scott Patterson has the ability to see things you and I don't notice." Short term interest rate futures (STIR futures) are one of the largest financial markets in the world. The two main contracts, the Eurodollar and Euribor, regularly trade in excess of one trillion dollars and euros of US and European interest rates each day. STIR futures are also unique because their structure encourages spread and strategy trading, offering a risk reward profile incomparable to other financial markets. STIR futures are traded on a completely electronic market place that provides a level playing field, meaning that the individual can compete on exactly the same terms as banks and institutions. The sheer number of trading permutations allows traders to find their own niche. "STIR Futures" is a handbook to the STIR futures markets, clearly explaining what they are, how they can be traded, and where the profit opportunities are. The book has been written for aspiring traders and also for experienced traders looking for new markets. This book offers a unique look at a significant but often overlooked financial instrument. By focusing exclusively on this market, the author provides a comprehensive guide to trading STIR futures. He covers key points such as how STIR futures are priced, the need to understand what is driving the markets and causing the price action, and provides in-depth detail and trading examples of the intra-contract spread market and cross-market trading opportunities of trading STIR futures against other financial products. An essential read for anyone involved in this market.

'My Advice? Go back to Graham and do your best to take it from there' - "Business Week". A classic - Those words can be applied without equivocation to the Security Analysis of 1934. This book secured Benjamin Graham's stature as a Wall Street immortal. The carefully honed methods for finding undervalued stocks and bonds he described here have never been equalled. These methods have already outlived their author by more than 20 years. But what of the original "Security Analysis"?In some ways, it too was immortal. Through five editions and nearly a million copies, it has been continuously in print for more than 60 years. With many additions and changes, the modern edition remains the investors' bible. But this original 1934 First Edition has its own unique charm and style - the special purity, elegance, and character of Graham as a man of letters - that distinguishes it across six decades and shows why this book launched an investing revolution. This authetic copy of the 1934 First Edition of "Security Analysis" gives you word for eloquent word the investing methods put forth by Benjamin Graham and his coauthor and follower, David Dodd, just five years after the infamous Stock Market Crash of '29. Its message today is just as vivid, just as lucid, and just as vital as it was in 1934. It's an investment in timeless wisdom and timeless value.

Like its predecessor, this volume details how to apply economics, econometrics, and operations research to solving practical investment problems, and uncovering superior profit opportunities. It outlines an active management framework that begins with a benchmark portfolio, then defines exceptional returns as they relate to that benchmark. Beyond the comprehensive treatment of the active management process covered previously, this new edition expands to cover asset allocation, long/short investing, information horizons, and other topics relevant today. It revisits a number of discussions from the first edition, shedding new light on some of today's most pressing issues, including risk, dispersion, market impact, and performance analysis, while providing empirical evidence where appropriate. The result is an updated, comprehensive set of strategic concepts and rules of thumb for guiding the process of-and increasing the profits from-active investment management.

The investment markets have never been more dangerous. Interest rates are at all-time lows; the sanctity of cash deposits is under threat; government bonds are expensive and offer ultra-low or negative yields; equity markets are largely detached from reality after years of loose monetary policy. Investors need to calibrate themselves to the realities of this extraordinary new environment so that they can protect their wealth and, ideally, prosper. In Investing Through the Looking Glass, longstanding portfolio manager and investment columnist Tim Price identifies and shatters a number of investment myths and misconceptions. He questions whether stock markets inevitably rise over the longer term, whether bonds continue to be relevant as a failsafe low-risk asset, whether professional fund managers represent "smart money", and much more besides. But this is not just a counsel of despair. Having identified the problems besetting today's investor, the focus then moves on to practical guidance to help investors preserve and grow their capital in this age of inflationary and deflationary uncertainty. Tim Price provides ideas on how to find attractive investments in distorted equity markets, on what might be the best-kept secret in finance, and how best to insure portfolios in an environment of heightened systemic risk. Investing Through the Looking Glass presents a route map for navigating one of the most challenging financial environments that anyone has ever seen. For the sake of your wealth, can you afford not to read it?

Where are the next decade's greatest investment opportunities? Veteran investor Marko Dimitrijevic argues that they can be found in frontier markets, which account for seventy-one of the world's seventy-five fastest-growing economies and 19 percent of the world's GDP. Yet many investors ignore them. Fueled by new access to technology and information, frontier markets are emerging even faster than their predecessors, making them an essential component of a globally diversified portfolio. In Frontier Investor, Dimitrijevic shows through colorful case studies, compelling charts, and fascinating travel anecdotes that it is not only possible but prudent to invest in these unfamiliar and undervalued options. Dimitrijevic explains how frontier markets such as Nigeria, Panama, and Bangladesh are poised to follow the similar paths of Chinese, Indian, and Russian markets, which were considered exotic two decades ago. He details a strategy for how and where to invest, directly or indirectly, to profit from frontier growth. Dimitrijevic covers the risks, political and otherwise, of these markets, the megatrends that promise exciting investment opportunities in the coming years, and the prospects for countries beyond the frontier, including Myanmar, Cuba, and even Iran. Rich with experience and insight, Frontier Investor opens up a whole new world-and worldview-to investors.
