It's always exciting when a favourite book is adapted for the big screen, and there are plenty of film adaptations coming out in 2017. Here are some of the major ones you can look forward to that we are really, really excited for.

The delightful, emotional and hilarious book by W. Bruce Cameron features a dog's quest to find meaning in his existence across several fun-filled lives whilst observing the human world. The film will feature Josh Gad as the title character.

The second volume in the bestselling Fifty Shades erotic romance trilogy of books follows Ana and Christian as they reconcile their relationship and endure a series of shocking episodes, including the interference of a bitter ex-submissive with a gun, and an eventful birthday party. The film will once again star Dakota Johnson as Ana Steele and Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey.

In this unique graphic novel, award-winning political cartoonist Derf Backderf tries to sympathetically make sense of Jeffery Dahmer, the future serial killer with whom he shared classrooms, hallways, libraries and car rides, a shy child who would be drawn into madness as he grew. The film will feature Ross Lynch as the young serial-killer-to-be.

At the heart of this amusing and poignant book is ten-year-old August, a boy who was born with a severe facial disfigurement. He has to tackle bullies and childish cruelty, but does so with a resilient and courageous attitude that inspires those around him. The film will star Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as August's parents, and Jacob Tremblay as the boy himself.

The Dark Tower is an enthralling and thought-provoking series of books about a 'gunslinger' who goes on a quest towards a mysterious tower, said to be at the nexus of all universes. The film will star Idris Elba as the weary and detached 'gunslinger' Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey as his foe, the Man in Black.
