30 Years: What Our Customers Think of Us

Celebrating our 30th birthday this year would not be complete without reaching out to the wonderful customers that have joined us through every chapter of our journey. We asked some of them a few questions in order to understand their love of reading, and of Book People. The fascinating answers we received made us all the more proud to have enjoyed thirty years with such fantastic support.

"I worked in a hospital and the Book People rep used to call monthly and leave samples of books."

Lots of the responses we received mentioned our friendly distributors who visited their workplaces and schools. Book People's story began back in 1988 with just one van in the Guildford area, and by 1990 we had 140 local distributors spreading the joy of reading across the country!

Trying to cast your mind back over all of the fantastic books you have read (and those still on your reading list) is no mean feat, let alone pinpointing a particular title! We asked our customers if they could remember their very first Book People purchase.

"A collection of children's novels as a gift".

"I think the first book I bought was a Good Housekeeping Cookery book which I am still frequently using".

"Reasonable price and great variety".

"Range of books, stationary that is not seen in shops."

Now that our library has now expanded to include over 200,000 books, gifts and stationary, we are so pleased to hear that our extensive range of products is something that our customers love.

"Not one particular memory, but what books offer all the time - being transported to a different place, if you are feeling down a book can help you forget temporarily, and get you caught up in what is happening on the pages."

"Sampling a Tom Kerridge meal made by my step daughter having bought her his book from yourselves. Don't mention the washing up though."

We love that a book can be an immersive experience as well as something to be enjoyed with those around us, especially when it results in a delicious meal!
