Good causes and your local community mean a lot to us here at The Book People. We are proud to have supported so many great causes throughout the last 30 years with the combination of charitable donations and value of new books* to schools from 2016-2018 being over 3 Million GBP.
We could not have done it without you, so thank you to everyone who's been part of our community!
Here is how you have helped us raise so much:
Schools: We have given over 1.9 Million Pounds Worth of New Books between 2016 and 2018
All school visits, including Book Bus visits and Book Fairs are a great way for schools to get vital new books for their libraries and classrooms. At least 15% from the sales at each fair or bus visit is given to the school as commission which can be spent on books from www.thebookpeople.co.uk.
These events are at no cost to the schools to run, and with our books being up to 75% off publishers prices, this means lots of new books to help engage students in reading.
Between 2016 and 2018, schools earnt over 1.9 million pounds worth of commission to spend on new books from Book People. We give more and more each year. In 2017 we gave 51% more commission than the year before. And in 2018 this increased by a further 40%. We have plans to significantly grow this area over the coming years.
Book Events: We have Given Over 1 Million Pounds to Charity between 2016 and 2018
Book People Events are pop up shops at UK based employers and organisations, where we bring the very best books, gifts, toys and stationery to you.
10% of sales from Book Events are donated to good causes, chosen by the organisation hosting the book event. Between 2016 and 2018, we gave over 1 million pounds to registered charities.
Bedtime Story: Over 39 Thousand Pounds Raised for Childrens Charities
Our Bedtime Story Competition, which was launched in autumn 2016, encourages UK school children to write a bedtime story picture book. The overall winner of each yearly competition has their story published, with proceeds donated to a childrens charity.
The first winning book, The Moon Man by Isabel Harris, has raised over 20 thousand pounds for Action for Children. Last year we published Theres A Boy Just Like Me by Frasier Cox, which has so far raised over 19 thousand pounds for Save The Children.
The 2018 winning story, Elliot and Rubys Amazing Adventures by Tom Burlison, will be published later this year, with at least 35% of proceeds going to Save The Children.
30th Birthday Fundraising: Over 840 Pounds Raised for Save The Children, So Far
In September 2018 we kicked off our 30th birthday celebrations with staff committing to fundraise as much money as possible for our charity partner, Save the Children.
We have hosted bake sales, dressed up for Halloween and run sample sales and so far we have raised 841.50 GBP. We have lots more events planned, including one member of staff running an ultra-marathon. More on this soon!
We are committed to raising even more money and giving even more free books to schools in 2019. Giving back and being a part of your community is hard-wired into our DNA. We will continue to do all we can to play our part and will continue to involve you every step of the way.
If you have any suggestions please contact us.
We will keep you updated as our fundraising progresses.
