How Will The Incredible Journey Impact Children?

The theme of the Bedtime Story Competition 2018 was imagination and Tom's story is filled with the joy imagination can bring. On their walk to school, Elliot and Ruby come across portal puddles, pieces of alien spacecraft and even dinosaurs! This exciting story will definitely capture the attentions of even the most reluctant reader and entertain everyone at bedtime.

As the book was created after Tom won our Bedtime Story Competition 2018, we believe The Incredible Journey will also inspire more kids to take up creative writing as a hobby. Writing is a great exercise for children, it encourages creativity and self-expression and helps them build up their literacy skills. The competition is back this year and we are currently accepting stories of 200-800 words on the theme of feelings so if you know a young writer who dreams of becoming a published author, this is a great opportunity for them.

The Incredible Journey is raising money for our partner charity, Save the Children, with at least 35% of the proceeds from each book sold being donated to this amazing charity. We spoke to Save the Children to find out how Tom's book will impact children from their perspective. They said, "The money raised through the sales of The Incredible Journey will go towards supporting Save the Children's work around the world. In 2018, Save the Children directly reached 40.8 million children, working across 118 countries to make sure children survive, get protection when they're in danger, and have the chance to learn. Closer to home, they work with parents and schools to improve the home learning environment for children growing up in disadvantaged homes in the UK. Save the Children believe every child deserves a chance to make their mark on the world, and help to build a better future for us all."

Bedtime Story Winner 2018: The Incredible Journey (Hardback)

    Tom Burlison

    Hand-picked favourites
We are so excited to be sharing Tom Burlison's The Incredible Journey - the winner of The Book People's Bedtime Story Competition 2018.

Seven-year-old Tom's tale is a fun and inspiring bedtime story about the power of imagination and friendship. The two main characters, Elliot and Ruby, have many adventures: they travel through puddle portals to pirate lands, find parts of an alien spacecraft, and get chased by dinosaurs - all on their walk to school as their imaginations unlock a world of possibilities!

Tom's story was selected as the winner of our Bedtime Story Competition 2018 out of over 1000 entries from children aged between 5 and 11. A panel of judges that included Olympic Gold medallist and Dadventures author Alex Gregory and Sara Sanchez, the illustrator of the winning book chose Tom's story because it is funny, clever and it shows how imagination can transform the way a child looks at the world.

At least 35% of the price of the book will be donated to Save the Children, a charity that fights every single day for children's futures. Sold exclusively through us at theBookPeople.co.uk, Tom's book features illustrations from top children's book illustrator Sara Sanchez and is published by Little Tiger.

Please note that this book is exempt from all promotions due to its charitable donation.

If you think you know a child who could be our next published author then head to our competition page to encourage your children to enter their stories about feelings.
