Christmas telly is the best telly in our opinion, and there are some very exciting shows to look forward to for Christmas 2016! From Doctor Who to Agatha Christie, there's something for everyone this festive season, and each show listed here has a book tie-in to enjoy, too.

Doctor Who

Join our favourite time-travelling hero, the eccentric and brilliant Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi), in this superhero-themed Christmas special, The Return of Doctor Mysterio! It also stars Matt Lucas in his recurring role as Nardole, River Song's former assistant. Maigret's Dead Man, based on the crime novel by Georges Simenon, stars Rowan Atkinson as the enigmatic Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, who must investigate the murder of an anonymous man in the murky Parisian underworld. The Bronte Sisters

This biography of the Bronte family, including Emily, Anne, Charlotte, their brother Branwell and their father Patrick, is a fascinating insight into their difficult lives, living in a grim house in Haworth beside the vast, grey moors. Witness for the Prosecution

Murder mystery fans are in for a treat this Christmas with the TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's 23-page short story. When Leonard Vole is arrested on suspicion of murdering Emily French, a wealthy older woman who had recently made him her principal heir, Leonard's wife Romaine decides to testify not in his defence, but as a witness for the prosecution.
