Alexander Kent was born Douglas Edward Reeman on 15 October, 1924 and died on 23 January, 2017. He used the pseudonym Alexander Kent to write historical fiction about the Royal Navy. His books are often set during either World War I or the Napoleonic Wars.
He was born in Thames Ditton and joined the Navy at the age of 16. He served during WWII and the Korean War and also worked for the Metropolitan Police and as a social worker. He wrote over 28 Richard Bolitho books and 30 novels over a period of 60 years.
