Cressida Cowell first started writing about dragons and Vikings aged 9, on the deserted Scottish island where she spent her summers. Now, her How to Train Your Dragon series (which she both writes and illustrates) is translated into 38 languages and has sold over 7 million books worldwide; it’s a blockbuster DreamWorks film series, and a TV show on Netflix. Cressida started out her publishing career in picture books: she won the Nestle Children’s Book Prize for her Emily Brown series, and has been shortlisted for many others. In 2015, she won the Philosophy Now award for Contributions in the Fight Against Stupidity (the 2014 winner was Noam Chomsky!). She has been a proud Ambassador for the National Literacy Trust for almost ten years. Cressida lives in Hammersmith with her husband and three children.
