Douglas Adams

The man who created the various incarnations of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams was born in Cambridge on 11 March, 1952 and was educated in Essex and Cambridge. Hitchhiker’s started as a Radio 4 series in 1978 and was then published as a funny, sci-fi novel the year after. This was followed by four more books following Arthur Dent’s adventures, making a ‘trilogy of five’.

From Marvin the Paranoid Android to the importance of towels and the power of 42, the various plot points from Hitchhiker’s have become important pop culture references. Douglas Adams has sold over 15 million book worldwide and the radio show remains the only one to be nominated for a Hugo. Douglas was also the author of the Dirk Gently adventures
