Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. The Book People
The creator of Spot the Dog, Eric Hill was an author and illustrator who was highly acclaimed for his contributions to children’s books - he’s widely credited with incorporating the lift-the-flap concept and introducing the concept of ‘interactive books for babies’.
Eric was born on 7 September, 1927 in Holloway and started writing about Spot the puppy for his son in 1976. The first Spot book was published in 1980 and he followed this up with many more stories about this lovable dog - it even inspired a cartoon and various merchandise. Eric Hill’s books have sold over 60 million copies and been translated into 60 languages. Eeric was awarded and OBE in 2008’s New Year Honours list and died on 6 June, 2014.
