Fay Weldon was born under the name Franklin Birkinshaw on 22 September, 1931 in Birmingham and is an author, essay writer and playwright. She grew up in Auckland, New Zealand before returning to England and studied psychology and economics before starting her career.
She worked as head of copywriting for an advertising agency before publishing her first novel, The Fat Woman’s Joke in 1967. The Life and Loves of a She-Devil is her best-known work.
