Frances Hardinge

Born in Brighton in 1973, Frances Hardinge won the Costa Book of the Year for The Lie Tree in 2016 - the first children’s book (and only second overall) to win since Philip Pullman’s The Amber Spyglass in 2001. Frances published her debut novel, Fly By Night, in 2006 and it won the Branford Boase Award.

The Lie Tree was published as a special edition with illustrations by Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell in 2006 and her book Cuckoo Song was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Frances lives and works in London and is rarely seen without her white hat.
