Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. The Book People
The author of 1993’s Trainspotting (adapted into a cult favourite film directed by Danny Boyle and starring Ewan McGregor and Kelly Macdonald in 1996), Irvine Welsh was born on 27 September, 1957. His work is characterised by its humour, Scots dialect and observations on gritty Edinburgh life surrounding the working classes, recreational drug use, identity and prejudice.
Alongside bestselling books including Filth (adapted into a film starring James McAvoy), Glue and Trainspotting sequel Porno, Irvine has written many stage plays, screenplays and short films for bands. Many of his characters appear across his different books, meaning they live in a shared universe.
The son of a dock worker father and waitress mother, Irvine Welsh grew up in public housing projects and played in punk bands in the ‘70s. He now lives in Dublin with his wife but also spends tim in Miami Beach and Edinburgh to visit friends, family and Hibernian Football Club.
