1940. At just 18 years old, Juliet Armstrong is recruited into the world of espionage. She is tasked with monitoring the comings and goings of British Fascist sympathisers, and she finds the work to be both tedious and terrifying. But once the war ends, she presumes that the events of those years have been relegated to the past forever.

Ten years later, Juliet is a BBC producer and is surprised when she is confronted by figures from the past. A different war is being fought now and Juliet finds herself once more under threat. She begins to realise that there is no action without consequence.
