Michael Morpurgo

After being involved in the development of the role following a discussion with Ted Hughes, Michael Morpurgo was named Children’s Laureate between 2003 and 2005. The bestselling author of War Horse, Private Peaceful and Kensuke’s Kingdom, Morpurgo’s books cover themes of wartime, animals and friendship. Born in St Albans in 1943, Michael Morpurgo has written over 120 books and War Horse has been adapted into both a long-running West End play and a Hollywood blockbuster by director Steven Spielberg.
