Uncle Gobb And The Green Heads (Paperback)

    Michael Rosen

    Hand-picked favourites
The second uproarious adventure from the comic pairing of Michael Rosen and Neal Layton sees Malcolm and the peculiar Uncle Gobb go to America, each with a cunning plan ... Even though Malcolm managed to bamboozle and confuzle Uncle Gobb in the last book (hooray!), it was only temporary (boo!). Uncle Gobb is still living with him and still roaring at him about peas and poetry and Peter Parker. This time the plan to get rid of Uncle Gobb has to be mega. It has to be epic. It has to involve America, the Jumblies, the Genie (of course), Aunty Brenda the Mender and Malcolm's long-lost dad. But Malcolm doesn't know that Uncle Gobb also has a plan. A plan to get rid of Malcolm once and for all ... A bonkers book about standing up for yourself, from two crazily creative people. Sure to delight fans of Andy Stanton and Tom Gates.

    Michael Rosen's Sad Book (Paperback)

    Michael Rosen

    (3)
This is a heartbreakingly honest account of a father's grief for his son from the illustrious pairing of two former Children's Laureates. Very occasionally the term non-fiction has to stretch itself to accommodate a book that fits into no category at all. Michael Rosen's "Sad Book" is such a book. It chronicles Michael's grief at the death of his son Eddie from meningitis at the age of 19. A moving combination of sincerity and simplicity, it acknowledges that sadness is not always avoidable or reasonable and perfects the art of making complicated feelings plain. It wasn't made like any other book either; Michael Rosen said of the text, 'I wrote it at a moment of extreme feeling and it went straight down onto the page...Quentin didn't illustrate it, he 'realized' it. He turned the text into a book and as a result showed me back to myself. No writer could ask and get more than that.' And Quentin Blake says that the picture of Michael 'being sad but trying to look happy' is the most difficult drawing he's ever done...'a moving experience'. Michael Rosen's "Sad Book", which has sold over 125,000 copies in hardback, won the Exceptional Book category at the English 4-11 Book Awards for the Best Books, the Smarties Book Prize 6-8 Category Bronze Award and was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.

    Michael Rosen

    (1)
Two of the biggest names in children's publishing, Michael Rosen and Chris Riddell, come together in a new poetry collection. The poems in A Great Big Cuddle fizz off the page with sound and rhythm, energy and laughter, as Rosen captures in the most remarkable way what it means to be very, very young. A child's world with all its details and feelings - toys and games, animals and made-up creatures, likes and dislikes - is vividly conjured up in the most memorable, playful language, and Chris Riddell has produced some his most extraordinary pictures ever to bring this world to life. It's a book that will be enjoyed by the oldest grown-up and the youngest child - and a future classic.

Joint winner of the CLPE Children's Poetry Award 2016

This book is longlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal 2017.
