Born Eleanor Marie Robertson on 10 October, 1950 in Maryland, Nora Roberts decided to use her pen name as she thought all authors of romantic fiction had one. Also writing under the names J.D. Robb, Jill March and Sarah Hardesty, Nora Roberts has written over 209 romance novels and was the first author to be inducted into the Romance Writers of America’s Hall of Fame.
She published her debut novel, Irish Thoroughbred, in 1981 and many of her books have been adapted into made-for TV specials. She now has over 145 million copies of her books in print and it is believed that an average of 34 Nora Roberts novels are sold every minute. In 1997, Nora was the victim of plagiarism by author Janet Dailey. After settling the case, Nora donated the money to various literary causes.
