The master of horror but equally adept in other genres, Stephen King has written 54 novels and 200 short stories in his long and distinguished career, selling over 350 million copies of his books in the process. Born in Portland, Maine (a location that appears in many of his novels) on 21 September, 1947, Stephen King’s first published book was Carrie. Adapted into an iconic film starring Sissy Spacek, it brought Stephen King to the public’s attention.
Many other Stephen King books have been adapted into films and TV specials including The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, Misery, Stand By Me and It. In fact, Stephen has had more books adapted than any other living author. From a young age, Stephen was fascinated with horror and holds H.P. Lovecraft’s The Lurker of the Threshold as one of his main inspirations. He has a fear of the number 13 and is a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox.
