Terry Deary

Ever since the first Awesome Egyptians book was published in 1993, Terry Deary's bestselling Horrible Histories series has been among children's favourite books. An award-winning author, Terry was born on 3 January, 1946 in Sunderland and has written over 200 books. As well as Horrible Histories, he is also the writer of Truly Terrible Tales.

Terry's mother was a clothing shop manager and his father was a butcher. He worked in the butcher's shop while growing up and also worked as a professional actor, theatre director, museum manager, drama teacher and TV presenter. Horrible Histories has been adapted into a cartoon and, in 2009, a hilarious Children's Bafta- and British Comedy Award-winning live-action sketch show.

Inspired by Roald Dahl, Terry Deary has been married since 1975. A keen runner who now lives in County Durham, he has sole over 2.5 million copies of his books in over 40 languages.
