Terry Deary

Ever since the first Awesome Egyptians book was published in 1993, Terry Deary's bestselling Horrible Histories series has been among children's favourite books. An award-winning author, Terry was born on 3 January, 1946 in Sunderland and has written over 200 books. As well as Horrible Histories, he is also the writer of Truly Terrible Tales.

Inspired by Roald Dahl, Terry Deary has been married since 1975. A keen runner who now lives in County Durham, he has sole over 2.5 million copies of his books in over 40 languages.

Written with passion and flair, each book not only looks at the plots of the famous plays but also major historical events that happened outside the theatre doors including the plague and an attempt to steal Queen Elizabeth I's throne.

Every day, hapless hopefuls - or 'coneys', as the locals call them - travel to dirty and dangerous London, trying to seek their fortunes. But what and who is waiting for them when they get there? Tricksters and conmen, like young Eleanor's family, who prey on the naivety of 'coneys'. As Eleonor grows older and more aware of the goings on around her, she becomes troubled by her family's cunning and foils their plans to catch a 'coney'. Meanwhile, the fearsome King Henry VIII has some rather cruel ideas of justice ...for everyone. Terry Deary's Tudor Tales explore the infamous world of the Tudors through the eyes of children who could have lived at the time. These stories feature real monarchs and characters and take place in some of the most recognizable Tudor settings.
