Ever since the first Awesome Egyptians book was published in 1993, Terry Deary’s bestselling Horrible Histories series has been among children’s favourite books. An award-winning author, Terry was born on 3 January, 1946 in Sunderland and has written over 200 books. As well as Horrible Histories, he is also the writer of Truly Terrible Tales.

He worked in the butcher’s shop while growing up and also worked as a professional actor, theatre director, museum manager, drama teacher and TV presenter. Horrible Histories has been adapted into a cartoon and, in 2009, a hilarious Children’s Bafta- and British Comedy Award-winning live-action sketch show.

Inspired by Roald Dahl, Terry Deary has been married since 1975. A keen runner who now lives in County Durham, he has sole over 2.5 million copies of his books in over 40 languages.
