Previously published as Naked Diplomacy. Who will be in power in the 21st century? Governments? Big business? Internet titans? And how do we influence the future? Digital technology is changing power at a faster rate than any time in history. Distrust is fuelling political uncertainty; inequality is fuelling economic uncertainty; and massive technological change is fuelling existential uncertainty. The scaffolding built around the 20th century global order is fragile, and the checks and balances created over centuries to protect liberty are being tested, maybe to destruction. Tom Fletcher, the youngest senior British ambassador for 200 years, considers how we - as governments, businesses, individuals - can survive and thrive in the 21st century. And how we can ensure that technology helps us create opportunity, improve security, outsmart the extremists, and make it easier for citizens to truly take back control.

The Thing on the Shore takes place in a call-centre in Whitehaven, just a short hop from Sellafield along Cumbria's grim western coastline. When Artemis Black (from The Leaping) is assigned to manage the centre on behalf of a mysterious multinational corporation called Interext, the isolation and remoteness of the place encourage him to implement a decidedly unhinged personal project, installing what purports to be cutting-edge AI technology, with a real, human' voice, on the automated answering systems. As a result of Artemis' actions, one of his employees, Arthur, becomes aware of an intangible landscape inside the labyrinthine systems of the call-centre - a landscape in which he can feel some kind of otherworldly consciousness stirring and in which, perhaps as a result of his father's increasingly alarming eccentricities, he feels that he could find his recently deceased mother. Arthur takes refuge in this belief as his father, his job, and his house slowly deteriorate around him. He begins to conflate the mysterious, interstitial region that exists down the phonelines with the sea, as that was where his mother drowned. In a way he is right - Artemis' meddlings have attracted something, it is just not as benevolent as he thinks...

Prepare to meet the real McFly. In 2003, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter came together and formed what would become one of the most popular and successful bands in the UK. Just teenagers at the time, they were catapulted into the limelight and had to adapt quickly to their new-found fame - and everything that came with it. Now, at last, they have decided to tell their story, in full and revealing detail. Speaking with candour and their trademark humour, Tom, Danny, Harry and Dougie share both the stories of their own lives and that of McFly. They give their personal insights into their contrasting childhoods, the individual paths that led them to the band, the struggles they have each overcome, their love lives and, of course, their music. Packed with previously untold stories, a lot of laughter and the occasional tear, Unsaid Things offers a privileged look into the lives of four guys who started out as bandmates and became best friends. Their unique camaraderie radiates from every page and by the end of the book, you'll know them almost as well as they know each other.

A book that explains how power works and why diplomacy matters more than ever in our digital age. Who will be in charge of the 21st century? Governments? Google? And how do we influence the future? In the next 100 years, the world will need to deal with the same amount of social development witnessed in the last 43 centuries - from the rebirth of the city state, the battle for new energy, disappearing borders, the desire of the world's people to move to developed nations. Naked Diplomacy is written by a former ambassador - the youngest appointed for 200 years. He explores the core principles of a progressive 21st century foreign policy: how to balance interventionism and national interest, use global governance to achieve national objectives and sets out an agenda for representative international systems. Fletcher discusses smart power, soft power and the new interventionism alongside lessons from history from the most notorious leaders and diplomats across the world - Talleyrand, Kissinger, Mandela and the Kennedys included. Offering real-world examples of how diplomacy continues to have a significant impact on people's lives, and why it will continue to do so, the question at the heart of this book for all those in power is: Who do you represent? How can you do it better. Naked Diplomacy provides the answers.

'A wild ride through a world rooted in bizarre and unfathomable traditions ...I quickly fell in love with this book' - Bibliosanctum on Gleam Can Wild Alan unite the Discard against the tyranny of the Pyramid? Idle Hands is an ancient disease that once tore through the Discard, and if Wild Alan doesn't find a way into the Black Pyramid to administer the cure to his son, Billy, it will soon be stalking Gleam once again. Even with Bloody Nora's help, there's only one way in - and that's through the Sump, which was sealed long ago to contain the horrors within. And for Alan, the Black Pyramid will be even more dangerous. Thanks to the disease, the Pyramidders' fear and loathing of the Discard is reaching fever-pitch - and Alan is the most well-known Discarder of all. Bloody Nora has her own agenda. All the information she needs to complete her people's Great Work is hidden in the Pyramid - but just by being there, she is violating a centuries-old treaty between the Pyramid and the Mapmakers, which could spark conflict between the two greatest powers that Gleam knows.
