If you work for a school or educational organisation, Book People offers an easy, rewarding way to fill your classroom with brilliant books – a School Credit Account.
With 30-day credit terms (subject to approval) and no interest to pay, it’s a great way to spread the cost of your school’s books!
Below you will find answers to some of our customers' most frequently asked questions about School Credit Accounts.
Who can apply for a Credit Account?
Credit Accounts are currently only available to registered schools and educational establishments in the UK and Ireland. Applications for credit must be made by a school official over the age of 18 who is a UK or Irish resident.
How quickly will my application be processed?
We aim to process all applications within 24 hours and will contact you by email to let you know whether or not your application has been successful.
How much credit will be available?
UK customers will immediately have £ credit available. If you wish to request more credit, please contact us on 0345 606 4203. Irish customers will have € credit immediately available. Please call 0044 1248 679 395 if you wish to request more credit.
What happens if my application is declined?
We reserve the right to decline an application and are happy to discuss with you the reasons why. You can find our contact details on the confirmation email you receive.
My colleague already has a Credit Account. Can I apply for one, too?
Each application for credit will be considered separately on an individual basis. Please complete the online application and our Credit Control department will consider your application.
Can I shop online while my application is being processed?
Yes, not a problem. If your Credit Account is not confirmed you can still pay for your books using your debit or credit card, or via PayPal.
When will my Credit Account be available?
Successful applicants will have their account available within two working days. We will send you an email with full account details when we confirm your application has been successful.
When will I receive my books?
Delivery will be to your school address during term time only and will be delivered via courier using our Standard UK Delivery or Republic of Ireland Delivery service. If you are a UK customer and require 48-Hour Delivery or Next Day Delivery, these options can be selected at the checkout. Orders of over £1 from our School Books area qualify for free Standard UK Delivery. Irish delivery starts from €5.95 and will take between five and seven working days.
What happens if I don’t receive my books within seven working days?
In the unlikely event that your local bookseller or our courier is unable to deliver your books within seven working days, they will contact you with a revised delivery time. If you are a UK customer and haven’t heard from them, please contact our Customer Services team on 0345 606 4210. Irish customers, please call 0044 1248 679 395.
How do I know the confirmed order value and the amount to be invoiced?
You will receive an order confirmation and order despatch email prior to delivery. The items ordered and the invoice value will be shown on your email. Details will also be available online in the ‘Orders’ section of your account.
What happens if an item I’ve ordered is unavailable?
Very occasionally we may sell out of popular items. If this happens, we will amend your order and you will only be charged for the items you receive. Your despatch note/invoice email will confirm all books delivered.
What happens if an item is missing from my order?
In the unlikely event that an item has not been included in your order, please speak directly with your local bookseller or contact our Customer Services team on 0345 606 4210 (UK) or 0044 1248 679 395 (Ireland).
What happens if there is a damaged item in my order?
All books should be delivered to you in perfect condition. In the unlikely event that you receive a damaged item, we will replace it immediately – at no cost to yourself. If an item you receive appears to be damaged, please take a photo of the damage and send it to email@example.com or contact your local bookseller or our Customer Services team on 0345 606 4210 (UK) or 0044 1248 679 395 (Ireland).
Once I receive my order, when is payment due?
Payment must be made within 30 days of the date of your order.
How do I pay for my order?
You can pay by BACS/online bank transfer with the following details:

Can I pay my local bookseller instead?
We’re sorry, local booksellers are unable to accept payment directly against School Credit Accounts.
What happens if I have insufficient credit available on my account?
Don’t worry, you can still pay using a debit or credit card, or PayPal. If you require more credit, please contact us on 0345 606 4203 (UK) or 0044 1248 679 395 (Ireland).
What happens if I have no credit available on my account?
Your order would be referred to our Customer Services team for authorisation. They can be contacted on 0345 606 4203 (UK) or 0044 1248 679 395 (Ireland).

I am unable to sign in to my account. What do I do?
If you have forgotten your password, click ‘I’ve forgotten my password’ on the sign in page and you will be sent an email with a link to reset your password.
