Written by English novelist, playwright, scriptwriter and broadcaster, J.B. Priestley. First produced in 1946, An Inspector Calls went on to become a major film in 2015 and won an award for Best Single Drama at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards 2016.
It is Priestley's most famous play, in which he demonstrates the horrid consequences of poverty and inequality whilst sustaining a gripping detective thriller storyline.
The other plays include Time and the Conways and I Have Been Here Before, which explore the idea of precognition and pits fate against free will. Meanwhile, The Linden Tree challenges preconceived ideas of history and how life should be after the war.
