The twisted maze of Venice's canals has always been shrouded in mystery. Even the celebrated opera house, La Fenice, has seen its share of death. But nothing so horrific and violent as that of world-famous conductor, Maestro Helmut Wellauer - poisoned during a performance of La Traviata. Even Commissario of Police, Guido Brunetti, used to the labyrinthine corruptions of the city, is shocked at the number of enemies Wellauer has made on his way to the top - but just how many have motive enough for murder? The beauty of Venice is crumbling - and evil can seep through its decaying stones.

Loved this -

I came about Donna Leon by a chance recommendation, I was lent this book and devoured it in less than 24 hours. I am not a fan of gory stuff, but some of the cosy reads are, well, a bit too cosy! This I adored and when I wanted the next few in the series was delighted to find them here! If you like M.C. Beaton and Carola Dunn but want something a bit more meaty to tuck into, I cant recommend this highly enough. In fact, after having placed an order today for Carola Dunn, had to place an order for some Donna Leon later that afternoon, not having realised that TBP had them until I Googled buying them as Waterstones don't have very many!
