Great teaching book. -

I bought many different sets of phonics books for my 4-year-old boy. This is the one that helped him start learning. The green and red words are brilliant idea. The speed word chart also helped him practise. I agree that some of the text is a bit boring. But I believe every child has to go through the boring part of the study before really enjoy reading.

"Uninspired text" -

My grandchildren failed to engage with the somewhat nonsensical texts although they loved the ORT original books and the ORT phonics ones. I regretted buying them - even at the knock-down price.

"What?" -

I have just read the review by Martina, I am pleased that she happens to have a genius 4 year old who can read two of these books in a night - but for the rest of us - these books are excellent.I have purchased several reading sets and this is the first which I can actually say works. My son has just reached the phase in his phonics learning of reading sentences. These stories are appropriate from this point. They are paced to fit with the rate the children learns the phonic sounds and 'tricky words'. My son therefore could read most of the first book by himself without a problem. Additionally, the illustrations didn't give too much of the story away so he couldn't do his usual trick of reading the pictures. I like these books for value in teaching a child to read. It you want a thrilling storybook to expand your child’s vocabulary and stimulate their imagination with tales of space fairies and pirate dinosaurs then these are probably not the best choice.

"Great" -

These books are great. I have yet to see a collection that helps with starting to read as good as these. You start with practising the phonics. Then practice reading the words before tackling the story. These books give the most guidance and will really help your new reader gain confidence and the ability to work out new words on their own. The stories are designed to be easy to read but do increase in complexity as you go up the levels and we enjoyed them.

"More Please!" -

Good value books that always begin by refreshing your child's memory of the phonics of letters. By doing so my child was able to sound out each word in the book. As the books go on they advance in levels. My child could read them by 4 and has gone on to attempt more complicated words in both reading and writing.
