The Railway Children, by E. Nesbit, is the charming and heart-warming tale of three children who are abruptly transported from a comfortable life in London to an impoverished existence in the country when their father has to go away.

Where he has gone and why remains a mystery to the children but, in the meantime, their lives are filled with interesting adventures that will captivate young readers from 9+.

The Railway Children is one of the best-loved classics of all time and this edition includes a wonderful introduction by Jacqueline Wilson.

Red House Reader Review

Reader review: The Railway Children - Paperback - 9780141321608

Have you ever experienced something terrible happen to you? Well if you have then you will know how hard it would have been for Roberta, Peter and Phyllis. It all started when their beloved Father leaves unexpectedly.

With their Father gone, they become very poor and have to leave their treasured home and instead find themselves in a cold, much smaller home.

Although it starts terribly, the children soon get to enjoy their new village, making acquaintances in the most unexpected places and with the most unexpected people; not to mention the exciting adventures that their intrepid personalities lead them to. However, the thought still haunts them - where is Father and is he going to return?

To find out whether they ever see their father again or even hear of him, you will have to read this. I rate this book 5/5 especially if you are a 'Family From One End Street' fan!
