Based in Edinburgh, Inspector John Rebus has to battle with demons of his own, while also attempting to unveil and uncover the brutal crimes he has to confront as part of his increasingly important workload.

Ian Rankin, OBE, subtly introduces challenging social issues into each novel as racial prejudice, the sleaze behind the tourist-friendly facade and a rapidly evolving Scotland are all expertly covered.

This set of ten books includes Let It Bleed, Mortal Causes and a stand-alone crime thriller, Doors Open, that shows Rankin's stories are just as enticing even when they don't feature Inspector Rebus.

Rankin & Rebus Rock!! -

In some ways starting with the first book (Knots and Crosses) is a little bit of a mistake as it probably gives too much away. In various interviews, Ian Rankin has said as much himself.
However, as the first written book, it is the logical starting point and is a great introduction to the flawed genius that is John Rebus. The rest just run on from there and the stories, while based around Rebus, have a fantastic supporting and sometimes leading cast.
I was lucky enough to pick up on these a long time back and alongside the Sharpe series and anything by Bernard Cornwell and JKR ,I wait in anticipation as each new book is released. With book #20 soon or now available. This collection is a great way to get into and sustain Rebus.
I purchased the 10-book offer as over the years I have lent out various copies of what I had and as a result was unable to put my hands on the 'full set' to re-read.
As an avid user of the K device, I don't buy much in the way of print for myself, although I do for the grandchildren. BUT sometimes, rather like an old movie... you can't beat the physicality of a 'good book'.
ENJOY!!

Rankin is simply a fantastic writer. -

Read each and every one of the 'Rebus' books. My kind of policeman. No frills, no ceremony. Street level cop.

Knots and Crosses -

Having watched Rebus, played by the wonderful Ken Stott, on TV I wasn't sure whether I would enjoy the books. I needn't have worried as Knots and Crosses provided me with hours of entertainment, and I find that Ian Rankin is a master of his art. I can't wait to get my teeth into the other 9 books I have left to read.
