When Dick, Julian and Anne find that they are going to spend the summer with their Uncle who has a daughter called Georgina, they are really excited to meet their cousin. However, their cousin is a grumpy girl and wants nothing to do with the three children, insisting that she is called George and wants to be treated like a boy! As the children become friends, George and her dog Timothy, take them to their very own island and shipwreck. When they find an old tin box with a map inside, the children just know that there are gold ingots on the island. Can they convince Uncle Quentin before he sells dear Kirrin Island to someone else? My grandad and mummy have both read the Famous Five when they were younger - the stories are still brilliant for children nowadays. I like the language and the way the children speak - it sounds so old fashioned 'Why, what a brick you are!!' Don't let that put you off - the stories are full of mystery and adventure and make you really want to read more and find out what will happen next. I give this book 5 stars and have now bought the whole series to read because I enjoyed it so much!!
