Great Book -

I really like this book. It isn't perfect and I've ended up scribbling amendments over the recipes I've used so far, but I do that with all my cookbooks. What I particularly like with this book is how it isn't divided into typical: Chicken, Beef, Pork, etc sections but by type: Tagines, Soups, Curries, etc, with a section at the front to help you choose by meat or vegetarian. Even though I have a good number of slow-cooking recipe books I keep going back to this one at the moment.

"Lots of excellent recipes" -

I bought this book before purchasing a slow cooker. I have now purchased the slow cooker and enjoyed the first recipe so much (mustard chicken) that I made 3 other recipes within an eight day period! I haven't found any difficulty with the ingredient amounts specified. The recipes are easy to follow and there is an excellent selection of different meats, as well as vegetarian recipes and desserts....LOVELY!

"Best slow cookbook yet" -

I don't normally write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so to balance the previous review. I have made four recipes from this so far: Normandy pork, chicken and orange, oriental ribs, and lamb tagine with walnuts and figs. All have been really good, and much, much tastier than the results from my previous slow cookbook. Rather than being too dry, I find the opposite problem: too much liquid. With the chicken tagine and the ribs I had to drain the liquid off and reduce it in the hob, before adding it back to the meat. Perhaps the previous reviewer does not know how to use their slow cooker properly? Anyway, I suggest that they try some other recipes and perhaps they will be rewarded. There's a good variety of unique recipes (not just variations on a theme). All in all, so far this has been an excellent buy.

"The recipe I tried is wrong" -

I tried cooking the Saffron Lamb biryani. I followed the quantities carefully, and have checked afterwards that I didn't leave anything out. The result was far, far too dry. So dry it burned in a slow cooker on low. That shouldn't be possible. It might be possible to change the quantities radically so that it works, eg half the butter, half the rice and add 500ml of salted water, but I'm just going to annotate the recipe as: "waste of good lamb". I don't know if the other recipes are as wrong as this one, but I don't think I'm going to invest the time and ingredients to find out.
