Hermann Kermit Warm is going to die. Across 1000 miles of Oregon desert his assassins, the notorious Eli and Charlies Sisters, ride - fighting, shooting, and drinking their way to Sacramento. But their prey isn't an easy mark, the road is long and bloody, and somewhere along the path Eli begins to question what he does for a living - and whom he does it for. The Sisters Brothers pays homage to the classic Western, transforming it into an unforgettable ribald tour de force. Filled with a remarkable cast of losers, cheaters, and ne'er-do-wells from all stripes of life-and told by a complex and compelling narrator, it is a violent, lustful odyssey through the underworld of the 1850s frontier that beautifully captures the humor, melancholy, and grit of the Old West and two brothers bound by blood, violence, and love.

Wonderful book -

It made me laugh out loud whilst painting a picture of a bleak, violent world. The two main characters are the type of men who, if they walked into a bar, you would walk out. But their lust for money at whatever cost and their complete lack of value of human life is countered by their strong bond to one another. The complete lack of verbal communication between the two brothers and their very different approaches and needs with regards to other people, in particular women, lends itself to some great comic moments.

Great read! -

This book is violent but very funny. I came to it with no idea what it was about and loved every page, full of funny twists and imagery. Wish I hadn't read it so I could enjoy it again!

"Absorbing" -

I didn't think I would enjoy this book as it seemed a little macho compared to my usual 19th century novels. However, I read it in a day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well-drawn characters, carefully plotted and actually very funny in places despite some tear-jerking moments. Definitely in my top 10 favourite books of all time.
