Gloriously presented boxset -

A. Wainwright was a genius, his obsession with the Lakes made for this beautiful collection of his pocket-sized guides to the Lakeland fells. Bought as a gift for my husband, he loves poreing over them. He has walked some of the routes described and beautifully illustrated by Wainwright in these books.

My husband recommends these as an introduction to the Lakeland fells, small enough to be carried as your guide along the many and varied routes described on each page in every book.

Beautiful but dated -

I think it should be pointed out that there is a new version of these guides, very sympathetically updated by Chris Jesty in the original style to reflect the many changes to the Lake District landscape since Wainwright wrote the originals. That is not to detract from these originals, which are lovely books, but which are no longer so useful as practical guides on the fells.

Fantastic value -

This set of books is very good value, already had several from many years ago, it's good to have a new, complete set, Husband very pleased with these books - he stopped hill walking many years ago, now he is happily reviving memories of the Lake District through A. Wainwright's descriptive words and drawings.

Wainwright at his best -

This set of books was presented to me in an email with 10% off and it was a deal too good to miss. Although not a definitive guide for hiking the hills, these books are fantastic to read and offer great words of wisdom from the world-famous hill walker. The panorama sketches are timeless Still as fresh, as when they were first published. The fact that most of what Wainwright records or draws, is still the same, just goes to show the permanent majesty and splendour of one of England's greatest treasures. Great for planning your fell walking adventures, and a handy pocket size reference. Take it with you and relive Wainwright's labour of love.
