The 1st wave took out half a million people, the 2nd put that number to shame. Rick Yancey's frightening dystopia is now anticipating its 5th hit and no one knows what to expect.
Cassie has lost everything, her parents are dead, her little brother has been captured... She runs from Them on a daily basis as they kill anyone they find scattered across Earth. Then she meets Evan. Is he her only hope to rescue her brother and save herself from this terrifying alien invasion?
In this gripping young adult epic, The Hunger Games meets I Am Number Four to create an intense and thrilling dystopian sci-fi adventure. The overall winner of the Red House Children's Book Award 2014, this is an action-packed page-turner that is set to be adapted into a blockbuster film, starring Chloe Grace Moretz.
Please be advised that some of the content in this book contains mild profanities and themes that are not suitable for younger children.
This book is a complete page-turner, very well written, and makes you want to stop everything to get back to it.
Action packed! -
Cassie is a perfectly normal girl before the First Wave hits. She lives at home with her parents, has a crush on the school heart-throb and has to live with the disaster of having Cassie shortened from Cassiopeia.
However, all of this pales into something less than insignificant when the 1st Wave hits the world: an electromagnetic pulse wiping out all transport and electricity. The Second Wave, rods falling on the edges of tectonic plates, wipes out millions of people. Anyone who could have pretended that the alien invasion was benign have now realised that it's only a matter of time until the world is cleared of humanity; it's just a matter of waiting as the remaining people face up to the next waves.
But the fear is, with the enemy attacking from all angles, how do you know who to trust? The 5th Wave is one of the most brilliant books I have read recently. Written in a fluid and exciting style, it promises to bring the excitement of 'The Hunger Games' and 'I Am Number Four'. And yes, it succeeds.
The book is enticing and filled with human emotion, written with such a touching oversight that you understand all the characters as though you know them. Other books written in the same genre can lose the human feeling, and the protagonist's non-realisation of the enormity of the situation leaves it unfeeling; however this book is both action packed and brilliant in that respect. Whether it is laughter, tears, fear or action you are looking for, I recommend this to anyone in need of a good read.

An exciting new series -
I really enjoyed this book. Although it slows down in the middle, I can't wait to read the sequel! Delivery was quick although my dust jacket had a tear in it.
A riveting read, I couldn't put it down!
A brilliant book -
This is a brilliant Young Adult book that follows Cassie and her fight to stay alive - and find her brother - in a desolate and dystopian future. With sci-fi elements, menacing enemies and a captivating storyline, the book also features an interesting and likeable lead character. Youll be racing through the pages!
