The Fault in Our Stars (Paperback)

John Green, the author of Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns, is one of the most popular voices in contemporary young adult fiction and The Fault in Our Stars became an instant classic.

You will probably have been in tears watching the big-screen adaptation that starred Shailene Woodley and Ansel Engort as the devoted teenage lovers Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters and the book is just as heart-wrenching and poignant, but keeps a fine line in self-depreciating humour - especially from the wise-beyond-her-years Hazel.

After meeting at a cancer support group, the cynical sufferer Hazel unexpectedly finds herself falling for the charms of Augustus and the novel follows the two as their relationship develops - taking in a romantic trip to Amsterdam in the process.

Full of wit, sensitivity and observations about life and illness, this profound book will make readers of any age (especially teens) laugh and cry in equal measure.

Love love love -

This book was so cleverly written that you can view Hazel and Augustus' situation from all angles. I also love how the book just goes to show the downfalls of living, amazing love story but also realistic.

Amazing book, highly reccomended -

I read this book before the film came out, and I could not put it down. Tugs at the heartstrings a lot towards the end.

Emotional Read -

I really enjoyed this read, and fell in love with Green's writing style. It was emotional and at times heart-breaking, but I will say for me, it wasn't without its faults. It has been massively over-hyped and I think I would have enjoyed it even more if it hadn't taken over the world! Worthwhile read though.

Great, but not suitable for young teens -

My 11-year-old daughter wanted to read this as 'everyone in my class has read it', but I wasn't convinced it was suitable for her. It is a great book, unputdownable, but I don't think it's suitable for younger tweens/teens. I don't have a problem with her reading about young people dealing with cancer and facing their inevitable early death, as traumatic as that can be, but rather the exploration of sexual relationship between the characters. Although this is suggested for 13+ here, I still won't be letting her read it at 13.
