Get your pincers stuck into this page-turning novel! Young adult readers are sure to be gripped in this genre-bending novel where sci-fi, black comedy and a coming-of-age story collide.

Ealing, Iowa. A small town where Austin and his best friend Robby have unleashed an unstoppable army - an army of hungry, six-foot tall praying mantises. The worst part is no one knows anything about it... yet.

Older teens will be enthralled by this new dystopian fiction which cleverly entwines John Green-esque heartbreaking themes with the brutality, gore and sci-fi action of Michael Grant. Absurd yet frighteningly real, this creepy and equally funny book raises important teen questions and will have young adults racing through the pages.

Red House Reader Review

Reader review: Grasshopper Jungle - Paperback - 9781405273411

A very daring book, going places that authors tend not to tread and being brutally honest about the interiors of a teenagers life. I love the way that the author presents the links he makes, very matter-of-fact surprising unpredictable information just casually pops up. I like the way the book switches between a first hand and third person perspective. First hand being that of the protagonist Austin and the third person aspect from a future Austin as if he is a historian. I like that the book is not only just about the end of the world but also about Austin’s life and his families Polish heritage. In the heat of the action it just goes off on a random tangent about his history, which is nice in the fact that it breaks the book up a bit and makes it more diverse. Overall, very interesting, new and original book, something I have never seen before.
