Perfect for my 8 year old -

I purchased this for my daughter some time ago and have been waiting for the right time to give it to her. She started asking questions about why our bodies are different but also has been getting very giggly with friends about 's.e.x' without fully knowing what she is giggling about.

I thought now was a good time to give her the book so she knows about her body and what will happen, but also so she knows the truth, albeit very basic knowledge, of what sex is rather than learning from older girls at school, which I suspect is what has already started happening. This is just one page of the book so could easily be missed out if you felt your child wasn't ready.

I told her if she had any questions then she could come and talk to me and so far we have discussed some aspects of the book and others she's read by herself.

I think this book is brilliant, and my daughter was definitely ready for it, I think we can underestimate our children sometimes so I think this was the perfect tool to give her just the right amount of information without taking away her innocence.

Just perfect -

My daughter turned 9 in August & her school friends (year 5) are starting to share what they believe are the answers to growing up. I was recommended this book by a friend and popped it in the stocking from Father Christmas. I was dubious about giving it to her as some of the content we have not discussed and I was worried it would scare her and possibly raise questions she was not ready for.

I couldn't have been more wrong, not only does she love the book, it hasn't raised any questions but more a joy of understanding why her body is different to mine. As adults I think we forget children read and understand differently and this book has not taken away any sense of my little girl. She is proud in the knowledge of what she will change into, not scared and sees it through the innocence of a child's eyes - she has read it many times and am sure will continue to do so.

Not all for 9-year-olds! -

I purchased this for my niece as she has just started becoming curious about changes and puberty etc and I knew that many of this sort of book is aimed at older teens. This is supposedly for age 9 plus (although she is just 10) but I feel some sections are not at all age-appropriate. I do not consider myself a prude but don't feel that she or any child of that age needs to know about sexual issues... To be fair, that section does come later in the book (which is only short) so I suppose one could just share the relevant sections at the right times but I was hoping to be able to hand the book to her after a discussion. The parts on body changes and the rest are very good, however, with just the right level of detail and tone - and some cheery illustrations to go alongside!

What's Happening to Me? -

I bought this for my 10-year-old daughter. I read through the book first and found it not age-appropriate as I was hoping for it to explain about periods and body changes, not about sexual issues. Will not be giving my daughter this book to read for a couple more years.

Informative and Accessible -

Excellent book. Perfectly pitched for Upper Primary school aged children. Informative and honest with enough detail so that there is an understanding but without the need of the "nitty gritty" details that just aren't needed at this age. It is a great book for broaching the subject and as a starting point for conversations. Have also purchased the Boys version of the book and it is just as clear and honest. Really pleased with this purchase.
