Have you ever been in desperate need of a cake fix but just never have the time to bake? Let us introduce you to Mug Cakes - cakes that can be made in a mug in your microwave in a matter of minutes!
Quick and easy to make, this delightful little book from Lene Knudsen contains 30 recipes that can be made by mixing a simple batter in a mug with a fork using readily available ingredients! Ideal to treat yourself or for a cosy night in with a loved one, the cakes are seriously scrumptious.
Among the tempting mug cake recipes you'll find within the pages are for a Lemon Mug Cake, a Chocolate Fondant Mug Cake and even a Mug Cookie with M&M's!
The recipes are printed in very small, very faint font which makes them difficult and hard work to read. A whole page is devoted to the recipe so there was no need to use tiny font. Faint font is also inexcusable .
When following a recipe it is impractical to be reaching for a good light and a magnifying glass all the time. It will be no pleasure cooking from this book. I bought the book for a present for my sister and I will now have to look for something else for her.

Great for non cooks -
My husband only ever baked one thing and that was a chocolate mug cake. My daughter brought him this book as a joke for his birthday. He made his second cake that evening and it was lovely. He found it easy to follow and is planning on trying lots more of them. Very happy wife here!!
Mug Cakes -
I'm pleased that the last reviewer has found a book that has worked so well for her son. Sadly I was very disappointed with this title.
I know that a Google search will tell you how to make a 5 minutes mug cake from items usually found in a kitchen and hoped this book would offer me more ideas. However, when it arrived (in perfect condition, of course) I checked the recipes and they all included single cream which would mean an extra trip to the shops just to get some.
I decided to replace with the same amount of milk and realised it would be a bit runnier. I cooked the vanilla cake for the suggested 1 min 40 seconds and it was still raw inside. My microwave is the correct temperature as suggested by the recipe so I zapped it for a bit longer and it was cooked but very dry. I think this is because usually I use oil and more milk which creates a runnier cake mixture.
Consequentally I have passed the book on to a friend who said she does always have cream in her fridge and hope she will have better success.
It's a beautiful book and he photographs look very tempting but sadly it wasn't for me :(
Very Good -
My son has autism and likes to spend all his time playing Minecraft but I managed to get him away to make a mug cake 3 days ago and he has chosen to make something from this book every day since then. 2 days ago he made a lemon mug cake, yesterday he made apple crumble and today it was a chocolate chip mug cookie - delicious. I would suggest a tiny sprinkling of salt though as the vanilla mug cake was surprisingly tasteless and I rarely add salt to anything.
