Learn to bake with Britain's favourite women's fiction author, Marian Keyes - author of Watermelon and Anybody Out There - in her startlingly honest cookbook Saved by Cake.
Saved by Cake gives an extremely honest account of Marian Keyes' recent battle with depression, and how baking has helped her. A complete novice in the kitchen, Marian decided to bake a cake for a friend and that was it - she realised that baking was what she needed to do in order to get her through each day. And so she baked, and she wrote her recipes down, and little by little the depression started to lift, along with her sponges...
With chapters on cupcakes, cheesecakes, meringues and macaroons, chocolate cakes, fruit cakes and favourite classics, Marian's recipes are aimed firmly at beginner bakers, offering hints and tips to help along the way.
I love baking and also love Marian Keyes books so this book couldn't help but be bought. I received it yesterday and actually took it to bed to read and then read it on the bus to work - nearly missing my stop! The recipes are simple and well explained with very helpful hints & tips in Marian's style. I haven't made any yet but I'm sure that will change this weekend. I also appreciated her honesty regarding her depression. I had what I refer to as a mini meltdown 2 years ago and have seen my dad recover from 2 breakdowns so I can appreciate the symptoms that she went through. You have to find your own coping & recovery stratagies mine was baking & knitting. I recommend this book to both fans of Mirian's and also baking - you can't go wrong with it.

Another amazing book by MK. I'm a huge fan of hers and enjoyed this book hugely. Her honest account of depression and her dazzling wit add something extra special to this beautifully illustrated book. The recipes are mouth-watering and perfect for all those like me who are new to baking!
