Pip and Posy are a popular duo created by Axel Scheffler - the illustrator behind the Gruffalo - and this gentle and funny, padded book finds them making a new friend...
Pip and Posy are having a lovely day at the seaside, collecting shells and digging in the sand. While Posy's enjoying a nap, Pip makes friends with Zac - a cool boy who has lots of fun toys and beach gear. He's even good at handstands.
When Posy wakes up, she's frustrated to learn that Pip is more interested in playing with Zac than her... but soon they realise that while two's company, three's a party!
Currently a firm favourite with our 2-year-old, and no doubt for another year or two, Axel's writing and pictures are some of the best I have come across. He doesn't use more words than needed and always writes from a perspective young children can really relate to - I think he is the best out of the famous duo!
The book expertly covers the highs and lows of friendship in a few pages, which is brilliant for a little one who is still unsure of how to be friends. Lovely, colourful pictures with the great amount of detail come to be expected from the author, so even when they know the story inside-out, there's still more features to be found.
