Great -

It is true, these books are slightly different to the usual BC&K adventures. The virans are a darker aspect, but they bring an important point about how different things could be if history had changed course. We finished reading the Vikings / Saxons story today and it makes a great point that we are all invaders and settlers and can live in peace. My daughter (6) absolutely loves them.

BRILLIANT -

My daughter has ASD (9) with a low understanding level. She loved the original BC & Kipper stories and re-reads her brothers as he is now learning. These give her the chance to read something a little more grown up, whilst learning about the past, but are short enough for her to grasp most of the story.
I think they are a fabulous addition to progressive learner readers and also for those like my daughter who are further behind and like the familiarity of the characters. I hope more are created.

Extremely 'dark' kids books -

I bought these partly because of the good reviews and also because my kids have always been big Biff, Chip and Kipper fans. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement.

These books are full of 'Virans' which are 'pure dark energy' which aim 'to destroy all that is good throughout history and so create a future of darkness'. Both the actual content and the pictures the books contain are totally inappropriate for kids aged 7 and certainly do not provide the innocent adventures of stepping back into history we were led to believe we would be getting.

I don't normally write reviews but was so shocked by the content of these ones that I felt I wanted to warn other parents. If you do decide to buy them for your kids, I would strongly encourage you to read them first and ensure you are happy with the content.

Loved these -

I used this collection as the base for my 7-year-old's advent calendar (mixed in with fun non-reading books for a break). He's loved every single one and was excited every day to see what would happen next. He's quite interested in history too, so he loved all the visiting of different eras. I'd definitely recommend these books to children looking to make the transition to chapter books.

Best books we've bought this year -

My 7 year old got these off Santa...he was so pleased. You finally find out why Biff, Chip, Kipper etc went on all those mystery key adventures! Very clever updating of the characters, glossary in each book as well as questions to ask/recap of the story so far and exciting stories! Fab!
