This collection brings together 10 lively stories starring author and illustrator Lynley Dodd's lovable character, Hairy Maclary.
The marvellously scruffy mutt goes on all sorts of comical adventures throughout the books and they're all described with wonderfully flowing text.
An irresistible collection for preschoolers, they'll be laughing out loud as the dog comes up against Scarface Claw, the biggest cat in the neighbourhood; stars in a dog show; and meets the one and only Zachary Quack.
My granddaughter has loved these books. She loves the stories, they rhymes, the pictures. She's now 5 so we read them less often, but she still loves to laugh at the pictures and the mischief the dogs get into.
Great set, but one misprint -
We already had the first book from this set (Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy) which my daughter, aged nearly 3, loves, so I bought these for her as a Christmas present. We have read 3 or 4 of them so far, multiple times each, and they don't disappoint. The stories are all in rhyme, and even though they might not understand all the words, a very young child can enjoy the rhythm and understand the gist of the story. Vocabulary is rich and varied e.g. Cacophony, caterwaul - words which wouldn't typically crop up in a young child's vocabulary.
My 7-year-old has also enjoyed reading these.
I did notice a fault with the first book. On the very last page, the text 'straight back home to bed' is missing, so the story ends with a comma on the previous page. I have printed the words in myself in black ink in our copy. Thought it was worth pointing out to people who haven't read the book before.
