A poignant, exquisitely illustrated Christmas story, with words by Delia Huddy and pictures by rising star Emily Sutton. When the ugly little fir tree is taken to the city, no one wants to buy him; they prefer the big tall trees. But a homeless boy asks the shopkeeper if he can take the tree, and down by the river in a cardboard box, decorated with a few candles, the tree finds itself at the centre of a magical Christmas Eve it will never forget. A Christmas tale with a classic feel but a modern theme at its heart.

The Christmas Eve Tree - beautiful! -

Whilst I agree that this book is, in my opinion, in the incorrect category, I would personally recommend 6+, I cannot agree with the one-star review!

This book is not only beautifully written and illustrated, but also has several incredibly powerful and poignant messages within. Because of these messages and the fact that it is ritten from a very different perspective of the standard magical Christmas Eve, I would say that it is more likely to be enjoyed and understood by children between the ages of 6 and 9.

However, I would happily read it to my reception children, I am just aware that their understanding wouldn't be as in-depth as older children. But I have read it to younger children and they have enjoyed the story. It is also a wonderfully gentle introduction to younger children that Christmas is not always Santa and presents.

Cannot recommend this book highly enough. Just beautiful.

The Christmas Eve tree -

Although this is a beautiful book, in it is a little boy that's homeless! That in itself is a hard context for a young person to grasp. In the back of the book it has the word lovers. The whole book is drawn with beautiful pictures.

I think the age from 3 needs to be higher
