Sarah Tomley's What Would Freud Do? provides enlightening commentary on the world's greatest psychologists' answers to some of life's most important questions.

Tomley reveals what Wilfred Bion would say about your horrible boss's behaviour, how Carl Jung would feel about your midlife crisis and even how Eric Berne would respond to the immortal question 'Does my bum look big in this?'

From the deep and meaningful to the shallow and meaningless, this book will help you answer everything from 'What am I like?' to 'Why can't I find Mr. or Mrs Right?'

What a Gem! -

When I bought "What Would Freud Do?" I assumed that it would be a self-help book with solutions to everyday problems that we all face. But, it turned out to be so, SO much more than all that! Basically, this is a comprehensive, wildly accessible and totally cool book on every thread of modern psychotherapy, designed to make you feel smart about things you never really understood until Sarah Tomley cleverly explained them to you.

Freud's ego and ID dichotomy? Okay, got it! The mystery of Jung's archetypes? Check! Maslow's hierarchy of needs? Sussed! Tomley even delves into the psychological underpinnings behind the study of facial expressions that reveal lying, the truth in Freudian slips, and the importance of being present in the moment. If you are the least bit interested in how your mind works and how that intricate web of instinct, compulsion and desire makes you do the things you do, then "What Would Freud Do" is going to be your go-to manual.

Let's face it: no book is actually going to solve man's eternal search for meaning, but this book can give you a what's up on all the psychological options you can access to figure yourself out. Insightful, practical, hilarious, and original, What Would Freud Do? is an unequivocal delight.

What Would Freud Do? -

This book is a revelation - I love it! How often do we try to understand our own reactions to the outside world while thinking we are the first to face such unique circumstances? Unchartered territory? Almost definitely not so, as this little handbook of comprehensive insight demonstrates.

Sarah Tomley explains with great skill how the greatest minds have approached many of the issues we all face in our daily grind - and in a beautifully laid out format which is easy to read, quite an achievement for a subject which can so easily be impenetrable and dull.
By clever reference to the writings of some of the giants of psychoanalysis, this book engagingly illustrates how great intellects have approached similar problems, sometimes from remarkably different perspectives and often with very different results. Whilst I have always had a passing interest in psychology, other books have been, at best, dauntingly complicated and generally irrelevant to me and were consequently only ever being partly read, gathering dust in the bookshelf.
This is the first time that someone has been able to explain complex issues clearly and precisely, making sense even to people who have not studied the subject. This is a book to dip into, savour and enjoy. Intelligent psycho-analysis has never been so instructive - and, more to the point, such fun!
