From the much-admired experts at Ladybird books comes this collection that includes a mixture of classics like The Ugly Duckling and contemporary favourites including Kung-Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon.

Covering Levels 1-4, the 30 stories have been written in conjunction with educational experts and include a variety of key, high-frequency words that are vital when it comes to learning to read. A limited number of story words are also introduced and practised.

These books will help build the confidence of new readers and as they tackle each level, they'll become more fluent and start to read independently. Many of the books include comprehension puzzles, helpful notes for parents, carers and teachers and more detailed book band information.

Level 1: For children who are ready to take their first steps in reading
Level 2: For beginner readers who can read short, simple sentences with help
Level 3: For more confident readers who can read simple stories with some help.
Level 4: Longer stories for more independent, fluent readers.

Very good! Worth for kids from 4+ years -

I bought this book for my 5+ year old daughter and she enjoys reading it. Very good collection of stories (2017 edition of book collection). Also the price is very much affordable and very fast international delivery (I got in 7 working days).

More advanced than expected -

Bought these to give out to my daughter's reception year friends at her 5th birthday party instead of the usual plastic tat. However, as other reviewers have commented, the reading ability required is well above the usual level for reception so I will keep them until next year or even year 2. Level 1 in these books corresponds roughly to level 4 or 5 on ORT as used by most schools.

Other than that, the set looks fine, with a set of 30 being ideally suited to class presents. If you were planning to keep them as a set, the box is fiddly to get the books out of, even for an adult. I can't imagine a child bothering to squeeze the books in and out of the box so they'll probably end up out of the box.

Great books! -

Great books for reception year at school, simple and easy sentences for kids to learn new key words and each book has levels on so you know which one is suitable for your child to read. I like it and my daughter enjoyed the books too. Thank you!

Book Bands -

In response to another question, the book bands are shown on the back of the books. Level 1 is about Book Band 4 (Blue) and Level 4 is about Book Bands 9 and 10. I would agree with other reviewers that these are not really suitable for children who are just starting to read - more for those who have mastered are looking to move onto more familiar stories.
